Eyam Hall Houses

Eyam Hall has been the home of the Wright family for over 300 years. We opened it to the public in 1992, but it retains the intimate atmosphere of a much loved private home. Few houses offer such character and charm as Eyam Hall. Under the watchful gaze of the Wright ancestors' portraits you will visit the beautiful stone flagged hall, a unique tapestry room, the bedroom with a magnificent tester bed. Other rooms reveal costumes belonging to family members, precious artefacts and fascinating family mementos. Observant visitors may even come across the ghostly apparition of Sarah Mills, a young servant girl, who drowned herself in the well and still answers the night bell!

The walled garden, now open to the public, is nearing the end of a restoration project and visitors can delight in the knot garden, the avenue of espaliered apple trees and the rose walk.

Research and restoration have combined to return this wonderful garden to it's former horticultural glory. Planting work continues to provide a combination of historic and contemporary species and their practical maintenance in the 21st century.

This traditional English walled garden contains four distinct area dating back to its 17th century origins; the knot garden, the kitchen garden, the bowling green and the lawn. Formal gravelled paths and historic architectural features intermingle with specimen trees, mixed borders, espaliered fruit trees and a beautiful rose archway.

Created in an historic farmyard the working craft centre is open all year.
