Founded in 1147, the fine early Gothic transepts of this Cistercian monastery in South Yorkshire still survive to their original height. In the 18th century, Lancelot 'Capability' Brown transformed an already beautiful valley into a truly enchanting landscape, incorporating the ruins. Excavation has since revealed the complete layout of the original abbey.
