Ripley Castle Castles
Welcome to Ripley Castle, home of the Ingilby family for the last 700 years. Just a short drive from Arden House Hotel, Ripley Castle, Nr Harrogate, has been home to the Ingilby family since 1325. Francis Ingilby was sought as one of England's most dangerous Catholics, the next generation heavily implicated in the Gunpowder Plot and 'Trooper Jane' held a startled Cromwell at gunpoint in the Castle's Library after his victory at the battle of Marston Moor.
The rooms are fine Georgian and Tudor, the Knight's Chamber contains Civil War armour and a secret priests hiding hole, accidentally discovered in 1964. The Guided Tours are entertaining and informative. The Walled Gardens contain the National Hyacinth collection, huge herbaceous borders, hot houses and tropical plant collection. Woodland walk. Deer park with lovely vistas. .
