Brilliant birds of prey

See for yourself an extraordinary relationship between man and bird of prey. Falconry was originally introduced as a means of obtaining 'food for the table'. In Medieval Britain birds of prey were often present at grand occasions such as pageants, weddings and jousting tournaments. Seeing these magnificent birds up close is still a very special experience and one which you won't forget. You will be given an overview of the disciplines and history of falconry by one of the country's best falconers, followed by a brief introduction to the husbandry and welfare of birds and the equipment used in falconry. They will also discuss the importance of breeding and conservation to help species in the wild survive. The expert falconers will demonstrate the skills required to handle the birds themselves and you will have the opportunity to hold the bird on your arm . In the afternoon you will head off into the countryside for a unique afternoon's sport hunting or flying the birds with the falconer. Programmes vary depending on the location.

You must be at least 16 years old and under 18s should be accompanied by an adult. General fitness is required for this activity as there can be a lot of walking involved. Some locations hunt the birds during the afternoon, therefore it is not suitable for squeamish people. No previous falconry experience is necessary.
