With parts of the countryside out of bounds due to the foot and mouth crisis, Leicestershire residents can still enjoy the great outdoors at the University of Leicester Harold Martin Botanic Garden.
The garden spans 6. 5 hectares of lovingly cultivated grounds. The horticulture, spectacular in itself, is also amazing in its variety, containing the National plant collections of Hardy Fuchsia, Skimmia, Lawson Cypress and Aubrieta. For those unfamiliar with the names, the sight alone is enough to convey the special nature of the plants and flowers.
The garden is now open to the public every weekend between 10am-4pm, until 11th November 2001. This represents an additional opportunity to visit the garden - its opening hours in the week are 10am-4pm. The garden is situated on Glebe Road in Oadby. Entrance is free. .
