Swansea Museum is a fascinating treasure house of Swansea's past history. It was opened in 1841 by a group of local people who were known as The Royal Institution of South Wales, which gave the Museum building its original name.
Swansea Museum is a real treasure house of the ordinary and the extraordinary from Swansea past, and is a focus for the future of the city and its people, as well as providing a visitor experience that we hope you find enjoyable. The collections contain all kinds of objects from the past of Swansea, Wales and the rest of the world. We have everything from an Egyptian mummy to a Welsh Kitchen, displayed in six galleries. There are also many changing temporary exhibitions each year.
