Newarke Houses museum is composed of two historic houses, Wygston's Chantry House and Skeffington House. Newarke Houses has attractive and serene gardens full of historical curiosities. At the back of the garden is the castle wall beyond which is the old graveyard of St Mary de Castro church. The gun-loops (holes) in this medieval wall date to the English Civil War in the 1640s.
