North Somerset Museum tells the story of North Somerset through the objects in its care. The first museum was part of the Albert Memorial Industrial Night School and Museum. At the end of the 19th century the recently formed Urban District Council took over the collection and built a new purpose-designed building to house both museum and library. The new Library & Museum opened in the Boulevard on 27th June 1901.

Peoples' Collections

An ongoing programme of exhibitions of local people's collections. Collections are usually displayed in the museum Courtyard for 8 weeks.

The Archaeology Gallery is situated on the first floor. The gallery shows local archaeological material dating from the Ice Age to the Medieval period. Iron Age material from local hillforts and Roman remains are featured. In the Mining section you can see tools and other devices used by people working in the ore mines of Mendip.
