Thwaite Mill is a fully restored working water-powered mill. Two large water wheels continually drive a mass of cogs and grinding wheels which crushed stone for putty and paint throughout the 19th century.

The tour also includes a demonstration of water powered engineering machines and an optional video presentation.

Thwaite Mills produced putty right up until 1976, and the site has had a mill on it since the 17th century. This is the last mill of its type on the river Aire.
