Colchester Zoo Zoos
Colchester Zoo has some of the best cat and primate collections in Europe. See a White Tiger eye to eye in White Tiger Valley, or get closer to the Zoo's Chimpanzees at Chimp World. The Zoo received special recognition for its work on projects across the board covering education, conservation, new developments and PR.
Colchester Zoo has over 200 species of animals; many of these are classified as endangered or vulnerable species. On entering the Zoo we suggest you follow our "Easier Route", Then follows the Wilds of Asia exhibit featuring our Orang Utans and Lar Gibbons.
One of the attractions to visit in this area is the Encounters Marquee with its Reptile Encounters & Macaw Display. After the heat of Asia and the sands of the Kalahari you have now reached the Aquatic Zone, which features the Aquatic House, Koi Pools and Small Mammals where you can see the ever popular Meeerkats, Hyrax, Dwarf Mongoose and Porcupines. The Valley Zone houses some of the best known animals in the zoo. Starting at Monkey Mountain you can a small part of the zoo's collection of primates - one of the finest in Europe. At Spirit of Africa, Elephant Kingdom you can have the unique chance to feed the Elephants.
Last admissions are one hour before closing, customer services, catering and Retail outlets will usually close at least one hour prior to the Zoo grounds.
