Bakewell MarketBakewell has held markets every Monday for at least 700 years. The thriving stall market, with over 160 stalls, attracts locals and visitors alike to the bustling streets of the town. Bakewell is the only Market town in the beautiful Peak District National Park. The Charter for this Monday market was granted in 1330, the third year of King Edward III's forty year reign.Bakewell - the Ancient Capital of the PeakSet on the banks of the Wye, with the river meandering gently through the centre, this beautiful old market town is at the heart of the Peak District. Famous for its puddings and the annual Bakewell Show, the town received its Royal Charter as a market town in 1330. Markets are still held every Monday in the town centre and its thriving livestock market is one of the largest in the country.Bakewell grew up around a cluster of thermal springs and wells that attracted Iron Age settlers and , in Anglo Saxon time, gave the place its name.
