Need to entertain the children this summer? There are several fantastic family films being released this summer, including the final Harry Potter movie, return of the Star race car Lightning McQueen in Cars 2, and the 3D version of sing-a-long phenomenon, Glee. BritEvents' Lucy Middleton takes a good look at some of the best kids films released in time for the summer holidays.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2

The final chapter commences as Harry, Ron and Hermione continue to search for the remaining Horcruxes that need to be destroyed in order to kill Voldemort once and for all. But when the mystical hallows are discovered and Voldemort hears of the quest, the trio face the hardest challenge of their lives.

Release date: 15 July
Rating: 12A - children younger than 12 may see the film in the cinema if accompanied by an adult

Cars 2

Super star racing car Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater go overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix. The road to glory becomes rather rocky as Mater gets involved in his own little adventure as an international spy. Join your favourite talking cars as they chase around the world in this action-packed journey full of thrills and spills. Available to view in 2D or 3D.

Horrid Henry: The Movie

Adapted from the popular children's books by Francesca Simon, Horrid Henry: The Movie tells the story of the unruly boy who, in a turn of events, has to save the one place he hates with every fibre of his being It seems Ashton Primary school is to be closed and the head stands to be paid a fortune for its demise. Horrid Henry won't stand for this and embarks on a crazy journey to save his school!

Glee 3D

Those who weren't lucky enough to get tickets to see "Glee! Live in Concert" can get the next best thing. Glee fans can enjoy an engrossing 3D recording of the show that captures the essence of the tour. With great sing-a-long songs and all your favourite characters, this 3D experience should be seen by all Gleeks.

Mr Popper's Penguins

Jim Carrey's back in this fantastic family comedy about a man whose life gets taken over by penguins. Tom Popper inherits six penguins one day and it's not long before they make themselves at home in his swanky city apartment, much to the disapproval of his neighbours. How could anyone resist the winning combination of Jim Carrey and cute penguins?

Zookeeper

When scruffy Griffin Keyes proposed to the lady he loves, she turned him down because she was embarrassed that he was a zookeeper. Five years on, Griffin gets offered a new job which he's sure will get him the girl, but the zoo animals have other ideas. They decide to literally speak up as they aren't about to lose the world's best zookeeper without a fight!

Spy Kids: All the time in the World

In a bid to fight an evil villian known as the Time Keeper, whose goal is to stop time, retired spy (Jessica Alba) and her children will have to get into gear to stop the Time Keeper in his tracks! Shown in 4D, it will be the first movie that uses new innovative technology that allows people to smell aromas from the film.
