Allister, who represents Antrim North and leads Traditional Unionist Voice, told the Belfast Telegraph he has written to the police and Parades Commission, believing the Belfast Pride organisers should apologise for the signs.

The signs in question included messages such as 'Jesus had two dads (and he turned out just fine)' and 'Jesus protect me from your followers'.

'It was a perverse attempt to make an argument for gay adoption. I found the posters and gestures offensive.' said Allister

Allister went on to say that in 2007 assurances were made that controversial signs would not appear again, after one marcher carried a sign saying 'Jesus is a fag'.

Allister was not the only one outraged by the messages, religious group The Caleb Foundation found the march to be 'provocative, lewd and offensive'.

Belfast Pride spokesman Chris Love said: 'A small number of individuals that may have infiltrated the parade were removed from proceedings.'
