After weeks of speculation, it has been confirmed this afternoon that The Duchess of Cambridge is indeed expecting her first child. However the Duchess has been taken into hospital in London with acute morning sickness.

Kate Middleton and Prince William have announced this afternoon that they are expecting their first child.

The news broke following the Duchess of Cambridge being admitted into King Edward VII Hospital in London suffering from acute morning sickness.

A statement released by St James's Palace today read:#quote#Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.#/quote#

The Palace added: 'The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King VII Hospital in central London with Hyperemesis gravidarum.

'As the pregnancy is in it's very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.'

A spokesperson added, 'The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and members of both families are delighted with the news.'

It is reported that The Duchess is just twelve weeks pregnant.
