Writers and co-producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are working on a sequel to Beetlejuice, which Burton has given his blessing. However, it seems the director is on the verge of getting on board with the new film.

MTV News reports that Burton is tempted to get back on board creatively.

'Yes, I love that character and [Michael Keaton] is so great in it' Burton told MTV News.

'I always think about how great and fun that character was, so I just said to Seth, 'If you have some idea about it, go for it, and then I'll look at it freshly. In the past, I tried some things, but that was way back when. He seemed really excited about it,' he added.

The original 1988 film starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Michael Keaton and featuring Winona Ryder tells the tale of the recently deceased couple who hire a 'bio-exorcist' to evict the offensive new tenants.

Burton is currently working on two projects Frankenweenie, with Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, and the gothic horror Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Eva Green.
