MTV have revealed that the Godlike Genius Dave Grohl would like to record his new album in outer space, a wish that the UK gods of rock Muse also share.

The Foo Fighters frontman who had already confirmed a new album was on its way said We have an idea. It's kind of big really. We're going to record it in space. To tape. An analogue moonshot.

Before the band leave for another universe, Grohl is to reveal his forthcoming rock documentary on Sound City Studios and hinted that there may be a soundtrack album accompanying the rockumentary.

The film pays tribute to Sound City Studios, which closed as a commercial studio in May of last year, where some of the best albums of all time were recorded including Nirvana's Nevermind', Slipknot's Iowa', Rumours by Fleetwood Mac and the self-titled Rage Against The Machine.

Josh Homme from QOTSA, Slipknot's frontman Corey Taylor and Tom Petty are among the artists who have helped contribute to the rockumentary.

The former Nirvana drummer said We released a teaser trailerthere may be an album that accompanies [it]. I recorded a lot of songs with a lot of people in the past couple of months.

There used to be a recording studio called Sound City that was in the San Fernando Valley. Nirvana recorded there in 1991. It was this really beautiful dump in the middle of a warehouse district. A lot of great records were made there.
