Futureversity announces Free Summer Programme for Young People in Greenwich

Innovative youth charity, Futureversity, has launched another bumper summer programme for 11-19 year olds (up to 25 for young people with disabilities) as it returns for a 6th year to support young people across the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

The free programme will offer unique opportunities for young people who live, work or study in the borough to learn valuable new skills and develop their potential, while having fun and making new friends.

Run by industry professionals, the courses include subjects across six categories: Business and Careers; Skills for Life; Art and Fashion; Sport, Fitness and Wellbeing; Digital Media and Photography; and Music and Performing Arts. Among the topics covered are cookery, making films, music production, canoeing & kayaking and presentation skills, to name just a few.

This year, the charity has also teamed up with leading businesses across London, giving young people on the courses the opportunity to gain experience in real-life settings and travel up to central London. Some of the placement options include:

One-day Get into Law course at Hardwicke Chambers

Three-day Careers in Media course at MediaCom

Personal Statement course for university applications, run by Salesforce

How to be a millionaire money management course, also hosted by Salesforce.

Councillor Miranda Williams, Royal Borough of Greenwich Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: The Royal Borough of Greenwich is proud to be funding another exciting summer programme for our young people. All of the activities are free to take part in, and offer a great opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and develop creative talents.

Theres something for everyone, no matter what youre interested in, so I would really encourage young people to look at whats on offer and sign up.

Futureversity believes all young people have the potential to be extraordinary. It provides free courses and activities for 11-19 year olds (up to 25 for young people with disabilities) to help them develop the skills and self-belief they need to make the most of their lives. The programme has been commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Glenys Ruan, Programmes Manager at Futureversity, said: Weve seen an increase in enrolment year on year in Greenwich and 2017 is set to be our best summer yet! Futureversity has always provided positive, impactful programmes for young people, giving them opportunities to try new activities and access exciting learning that inspires and sparks interests, so we are naturally thrilled to be back this year to continue our positive work in the borough.

Courses take place during July and August at different times and venues across Greenwich and central London. Full course programme and booking is available through Futureversitys website: www.futureversity.org or by calling 020 7247 7900.
