Disney's latest sci-fi film with a staggering $250m budget is expected to lose $200m, making it one of the biggest box office flops in cinema history.
The Mars-based film, based on the Tarzan writer's space adventurer, has been panned by critics who deemed it 'boring' and 'chaotic'.
The Rotten Tomatoes site has suggested that cinema-goers liked the film more than critics with 72% of their users liking John Carter.
John Carter was directed by Andrew Stanton, the CGI mastermind behind Finding Nemo and Wall-E. He's no stranger to big movies and large budgets, yet John Carter has become a huge dud.
It must be something about Mars, as John Carter is not the only film to be set on this planet that has failed to live up to the hype.
Last year's biggest box office flop was Disney movie Mars needs Moms, which took $39m after costing $150m to make.
Red Planet starring Val Kilmer failed miserably, losing $82.4m worldwide in 2000.
The record-setting film that lost the most money was 1995's Cutthroat Island, losing $147m. Walt Disney corporation expect John Carter to break this record.
Disney shares fell 1% in after hours trading after the announcement.
