Kate Middleton looking great in green

The Duchess of Cambridge looked well and happy when she presented the Sports Personality of the Year award last night to cycling ace Bradley Wiggins. Dressed head to toe in a stunning green dress, this was her first public appearance since leaving hospital.

The Duchess of Cambridge attended her first public engagement since leaving hospital and looked stunning in a full length green gown at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony in London's ExCel last night.

Pregnant Kate looked relaxed and well seemingly to have put the last two very stressful weeks behind her. Earlier in the month the Duchess was hospitalised with a crippling form of morning sickness and then had to deal with the sad news of the death of the nurse who treated her at the King Edward Hospital in London.

The Duchess walked out on stage to rapturous applause wearing a beautiful green Alexander McQueen gown to present Seb Coe with a Lifetime Achievement award.

She stayed on stage throughout Seb Coe's speech and went on to award the Sports Personality of the Year to cyclist Bradley Wiggins.

The Duchess, who was suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum earlier this month, has been forced to cancel all her public engagements following her hospital stay.

Appearing on the BBC's sports award programme last night is certainly a sign that she is recovering.

Sources have revealed that although Kate had been happy to honour the engagement, she would only be able to attend the event at the ExCel in London for about 45 minutes before she would have to return back to Kensington Palace to continue with her recuperation.

Doctors have warned the Duchess, who is less than 12 weeks pregnant, that the acute morning sickness that she had suffered from could return at anytime during the first trimester, sometimes even beyond.

A senior royal source said of the Duchess: #quote#While the Duchess does not feel ready to attend a four-hour engagement, she is keen to show her support to the UK's sportsmen and women at this prestigious event which caps a momentous year for British sport.#/quote#

During the summer the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge showed their support for TeamGB when they were seen attending many of the events during the London 2012 Olympic Games, and surprised athletes with a visit to the Olympic Village to congratulate them on their performances.
