The Duchess of Cambridge revealed the name of her new puppy to children at a school in Oxford she visited yesterday.

Speaking to the children the Duchess told them that her new puppy, a beautiful black cocker spaniel believed to have been given to her from Prince William for her 30th birthday to keep her company whilst the Prince is on military assignment in the Falkland Islands, is called 'Lupo'.

The name of the new royal arrival has until now been unknown, and there has been much speculation over the name of the pup, with royal aids declining to reveal it.

The pooch is the son of Catherine's mum Carole Middleton's dog which arrived in the royal household just before Christmas.

A royal aid told The Daily Mail, He belongs to a litter of spaniels from one of Carole Middleton's friends near home.

The royal couple are reportedly to have taken the puppy in to foster before making the decision to make the adoption official.

William and Catherine fell in love with the pup instantly and it wasn't long before they decided to keep him, officially in their family, a source confirmed.

The name Lupo is Italian for Wolf', and according to The Telegraph one of the pupils handed the Duchess a stuffed dog, which she accepted and said Why don't we call it after my dog? He's called Lupo.

Kate Middleton was visiting the school yesterday where she was helping to promote the charity The Art Room, which is a charity to provide art therapy for disadvantaged children.
