Three paintings from the late actress Elizabeth Taylor's personal art collection have been sold by Christie's in London for £13.7million.

The combined total of the paintings sold at the auction was more than double the original £6.2m estimate.

Vincent Van Gogh's Vue de l'asile et de la Chapelle de Saint-Remy (pictured) painted in 1889 was won at auction for £10.1m, which was the highest auction fetching.

The piece, originally bought by Taylor's father for her in 1963 for £92,000, had been hung on Taylor's wall in her Bel Air, California home up until her death in March last year.

A self-portrait by Edgar Degas and a large landscape by Claude Pissarro titled Pommiers a Eragny sold for £713, 250 and £2.9m respectively.

The Oscar-winning Hollywood star died in Los Angeles aged 79 years old.

A further sale offers 35 works from Taylor's fine art collection on Wednesday. All of the artworks were featured in the global tour of highlights from the Collection of Elizabeth Taylor, displayed in New York and London last year.

A December sale of Taylor's personal jewellery, furniture and memorabilia brought in £94m.
