Metropolitan police have named Oceana nightclub in Kingston as one of the three worst nightclubs in London for crime.

The nightclub, situated in a former Gala Bingo Club in Richmond Road, was named in a statement had by Superintendent Paul McGregor of the Metropolitan Police.

This follows a police drive to crack down on bids for the creation of new nightclubs, which the police hope will curb much of the night-time crime that takes place in the city.

A new consultation is also being planned that will make it easier for Kingston Council to reject any new licensing applications.

Campaigner Nicola Duffey has been campaigning against a new club built in the Bingo Hall, and called for CIP (cumulative impact policy), which determines whether an area has reached saturation point. She commented, 'I'm disgusted the council have not put one in place before. Why are people afraid to walk from the Rose Theatre to north Kingston and take a taxi? It means Kingston is no longer a thriving environment.'
