Stolen Chinese treasures recovered

The jade bowl and porcelain figure stolen from the Durham museum heist have been recovered more than a week after the break in at the Oriental Museum.

In what was believed to be a stolen-to-order heist, a gang chiselled into Durham University's Oriental Museum from the outside on the 5th of April to steal Chinese treasures worth over £2m.

The heist was well-planned and it took as little as 60 seconds for the thieves to grab the 18th-century jade bowl and Dehua porcelain figure.

The bowl dates from 1769 with a Chinese poem written on the inside, where as the figurine is of seven fairies in a boat. Both are from the Qing dynasty, the last imperial dynasty of China.

Despite a handful of arrests, Durham police were unable to find the artefacts initially. However a police spokesperson released the statement on Saturday night the artefacts had been found.

A large team of detectives are looking for two men who are wanted in connection with the heist.
