The summer solstice, a festival that is synonymous with peace and love, has been rather rambuctious this year with 20 arrests made and around 50 drug seizures.

It seems not all those who attended this year's solstice were concerned about getting into the spirit of the event as druids, pagans and revellers stood around two men having a fist fight. By-standers attempted to separate the bickering men before the police arrived but were unsuccessful.

The crowd of around 18,000 were mostly well behaved other than the few bad apples. Superintendent Gavin Williams of Wiltshire police said 'Although it was disappointing that some individuals chose to bring drugs with them, they were dealt with robustly.'

The summer solstice is one of the few annual occasions where the English Heritage, custodians of Stonehenge, grant open access to the ancient stones.

This year saw less people at the festival which is said to be partly due to the damp weather and the fact the solstice fell at the start of the week.

English Heritage stated the atmosphere had been 'peaceful and good-natured' overall.
