London's popular amusement park Thorpe Park have called in expert engineers to redesign their £20 million new rollercoaster after a number crash test dummies lost limbs during test rides, Sky News reported.

The Swarm ride which is housed in a life-size church and has taken engineers two years to plan has made the drastic changes to the ride after the dry runs saw legs smashed off at least two of the dummies.

The emergency work on the theme ride was a costly operation, and has now been carried out ahead of the park opening in March.

The Divisional Director at Thorpe Park, Mike Vallis explained 'The ride-testing phase is absolutely crucial in ensuring extreme fun doesn't compromise safety, and we work with the very best teams in the world to ensure we reach the gold standard in safety, so if that means re-modelling a church it's taken us a year to build, then so be it.

'To lift the lid on what goes on behind the scenes of building a monster rollercoaster such as The Swarm is quite unprecedented, but we want people to understand the level of planning, precision and care that goes into creating their ultimate thrill-seeking experience.'

The Swarm ride at the theme park travels at an eye watering 100kph and is housed on its own island which contains wreckage from a helicopter and plane.

Mike Vallis has confirmed that he is now 100% satisfied the ride now meets all safety standards.
