Though it has been heavily tipped for Oscars glory after taking the Golden Globes by storm, it seems The Artist is not to everyone's taste.

Failed to be charmed by the silent film, a cinema in Liverpool has been forced to offer refunds to film-goers who complained about the film's lack of audio and colour.

'Odeon Liverpool One can confirm it has issued a small number of refunds to guests who were unaware that The Artist was a silent film,' said the spokesperson. 'The cinema is happy to offer guests a refund on their film choice if they raise concern with a member of staff within 10 minutes of the film starting.' A spokesperson for Odeon Liverpool One said to the Daily Telegraph.

The Artist by Michel Hazanavicius is the first award-winning silent film to be made in more than 90 years and to pay tribute to the early 20th century, the movie was played on a reduced screen size, which was also complained about.

Focusing on the romance between a fading movie star and a young man who rises to the top following the arrival of the talkies picked up best actor, best musical or comedy and best score at the weekend.

However, considering its critical acclaim, the film has yet to be a major box office hit, taking just $27m worldwide so far. Yet it could all change depending on its success at next month's Academy Awards. Nominations for this year's Oscars are announced next Tuesday.
