The Crick Crack Club presents: Mr Sandmann - Bringer of Dreams & Nightmares

Internationally renowned for his dynamic and challenging performances, Ben Haggarty slips behind the lights into the dark side of the fairground, where you risk getting more than you bargained for. Via freak-show and moonshine bar, ready yourself for an intense and alarming journey through the ambivalent mythology of the Sandman. Flirting with Americana; drawing on urban legend, fairytale, myth and folklore, and paying oblique homage to Heinrich Von Kleist, ETA Hoffman, Hans Andersen and Nick Cave, Ben Haggarty surrenders his sanity to the magnetic pull of a ravenous moon. ‘2 hours of storytelling genius’ Fringe Review ****

THE CRICK CRACK CLUB PRESENTS

MR SANDMANN Bringer of Dreams & Nightmares

by Ben Haggarty

Mon 2nd March 2015 8pm

PERFORMANCE STORYTELLING AT THE SOHO THEATRE, LONDON

Intense and challenging, Mr Sandmann Bringer of Dreams & Nightmares journeys through the ambivalent mythology of the sandman - that multi-dimensional character who continues to resonate within literature, film, music and popular culture; whether as the American provider of dreams, the man who puts sand into your eyes at night, or something far more sinister.

It is Ben himself that becomes our protagonist for the night who, with his transatlantic flight unexpectedly diverted, finds himself in a Southern-State carnival, right in the buckle of the Bible Belt. A reluctant customer of an aging freak-show he moves from exhibit to exhibit, each with an increasingly unsettling narrative

Mr Sandmann draws upon urban legend, apocrypha, fairytale, myth and folklore, and pays oblique homage to Heinrich Von Kleist, ETA Hoffman, Hans Andersen and Nick Cave. Here Marcello the hypnotist, the rabbit lord, the birds of death and the man in the moon will all find their place in the rich cinema of your mind's eye The result is an extraordinary piece of contemporary storytelling that is intelligent, absorbing, sometimes comedic and often disturbing.

So, join Haggarty at the Soho Theatre on Monday 2nd March as he slips into the dark side of the fairground, to a place where truth, lies, dreams and nightmares become one, but be prepared to leave with questions about you own desire for entertainment...

this story is about life, the universe and everything.
