Prince William came to the aid of Kate Middleton when she caught her heal in a grate during a St Patrick's Day Parade in Aldershot, Hampshire.

Sharing a laugh, mum-to-be Kate Middleton took William's arm while she tried to free her shoe.

Closely escaping a tumble, the Duchess of Cambridge steadied herself as she freed her heal from the grate.

The young royals shared a laugh as she finally freed her shoe, and carried on with the business of handing out shamrocks to the Irish Guards in the Ceremony at Mons Barracks.

After the parade, the Duchess met the soldiers. Seeming comfortable in their presence, she spoke to the soldiers about the sex of the royal baby.

Speaking to one soldier, she said:#quote#I would like to have a boy and William would like a girl.#/quote#

She also took time to chat to long service medal holder Sergeant Thomas Laven, who congratulated her on the impending birth.

He told her: 'You've got sleepless nights to come'.

Smiling the Duchess said she was prepared for it.

One Guardsman Jason Perry told the Mirror: 'It was great to meet them', adding, 'This is one of the best days of the year for the Irish Guards.'
