Wolverhampton Wanderers FC bosses have dismissed manager Mick McCarthy after almost six years in the job. The sacking follows their 5-1 home defeat by Brum rivals West Brom.

Winning just one of their last thirteen games, Wolves dropped into the relegation zone, with only 21 points collected from 25 games.

Fans vented anger and frustration towards the directors box whilst the match was underway, with many more demonstrating outside of the Wolves ground after the game had finished.

Wolves boss Jez Moxey told Sky Sports News, 'Mick McCarthy has done a fantastic job but if we continued in this way we were definitely going to be relegated. The trend was only going one way and when we lost 5-1 at home to West Brom we had to act. This has been a decision we've taken with a heavy heart but we have to act in the best interests of the club.'
