Hailed as one of the favourites to win the Mercury Prize in2012, Alt-J which was formerly known as "Films" and "Daljit Dhaliwal" has not only invaded Europe, but has also started conquering the airwaves in the US with the release of their debut album An Awesome Wave on September 18.

Formed in 2007, the band consists of Gwil Sainsbury (bass/guitars), Thom Green (drums) Joe Newman (vocals/guitars) and Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboards). The Cambridge-based band got its name from the Mac keyboard shortcut used to achieve the Greek word "Delta". In mathematics and science, "Delta" is used to show change and indeed the band's new name was formed at a turning point in their lives.Since the UK release of the album in May 2012, the album has been greeted with generally favourable reviews. An Awesome Wave peaked at number 19 on the UK Albums Chart. The infectious music of this indie band which was a mix of catchy pop, folk and hip-hop beats paired with confessional lyrics made Alt-J's music stand out in the indie scene.
