Beirut was a breakout indie success story in 2006.
Headed by the multi-instrumentalist, song-writer, and New Mexico native, Zach Condon, the indie pop band began as a group of like-minded music lovers. Condon, a music savant in his own right, recorded his first album, Gulag Orkestar, after meeting up with fellow New Mexico native, Jeremy Barnes, (of former Neutral Milk Hotel fame) and Heather Trost (Barnes' main squeeze). The album was a mix of Condon's musical prowess, featuring him on a wide selection of instruments including, horns, ukulele, saxophone, clarinet, mandolin, and glockenspiel. Although the line-up has changed over the years, the music continually features Condon's mournfully ethereal voice talents and a blend of sunny-sounding horns, cheerful percussion, buoyant accordion and wistful lyrics. Beirut is now touring in support of their newest album, The Rip Tide. An album Time.com calls, "effortless and intimate," and a guaranteed continuation of their previous albums' odd yet charming appeal.
