Down-to-earth lesbian singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile has come a long way since her days as a teenage Elvis impersonator. She's been recording albums since 2004, but finally got her gold medal opportunity when her song "The Story" provided the backdrop for one of GM's heavily aired commercials, making the tune one of the highlight sounds of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Carlile's unique folk-rock sound combines elements of the styles of her idols, such as Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson and Radiohead. She tours ceaselessly, claiming "Touring non-stop is a small price to pay. It really beats baggin' groceries." Her fans appreciate her heavy touring schedule. She's become famous for the intense, intimate connections she makes with the crowds at her shows --a magical spectacle that happens organically as she looses herself in her music. Her new album "Live at Benaroya Hall" represents coming full-circle. Featuring the Seattle Symphony, the album is recorded near her home town in Washington, USA at the same spot she watched her favorite musicians perform when she was a child.
