Since 1961 horse trials have taken place at the stunning Burghley House by owner the 6th Marquess of Exeter, who herself was an Olympic gold medalist in athletics.

The Burghley Horse Trials is one of the three events in the Grand Slam of Eventing. It's now an iconic event which attracts the world's best horse riders who descend on the house in Stamford, Lincolnshire each year for three days. Classified as one of the six leading three-day events in the world - alongside Rolex Kentucky Three-Day, Australian International, Luhuhlen Horse Trials, Etoiles de Pau and of course, Britain's very own Badminton Horse Trials - it has competition at CCI**** Level, with the prize being £50,000 for first place.Since its inception, no other international horse trials site has staged as many championships, a record ten in all including the first World Championship in 1966.
