Named after the border town of Calexico, California, Calexico has been present in the music scene since 1996.

Forming the nucleus of Calexico is Joey Burns (guitarist/singer) and John Convertino (drummer). The musical style of this Southwestern band fromTucson, Arizona is influenced by country music, jazz and traditional Latin sounds of mariachi, Tejano music and cumbia.The band has not only achieved modest commercial success - climbing the top of the charts and touring internationally; they have also been much adored in the indie scene. The band has already released six albums to date, the latest one "Algiers" was released in September 2012.With geography playing a very important role in Calexico's music, the duo had left Arizona to record their latest album elsewhere. Named after a New Orleans neigborhood on the west banks of the Mississipi river, Calexico creatively and carefully evoked a different kind of America in their music in "Algiers". The album included songs like "Maybe on Monday", "Sinner in the Sea" and "Puerto" where the Cuban influence was more prevalent - a music filled with salsa rhythms paired with mariachi horns.
