Named after jazz legend Django Reinhart, you will have a harder time putting Django Django into any type of music category. A psychedelic British quartet formed in 2009 consisting of David Maclean, Vincent Neff, Jimmy Dixon and Tommy Grace, Django Django is like everything you've heard before and like nothing you've ever heard before. They've been described as electro, indie, experimental, synth-pop, independent and art-rock, which is fitting considering the quartet met in art school. Citing influences as wide ranging as their sound, Maclean listened to everything from Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd to such indie greats as Black Lace and Humble Bums.
Signed to Because Music record label, their debut album of the same name was released late January of this year and reached the #33 spot in its first week of release in the UK. The Guardian gave the album 5 out of 5 stars calling Django Django "psychiatric pop-art at its brilliant best." Already getting national attention in the few short months since the album release, Coca-Cola used their track "Wor" in a commercial called "Ride" for Burn Energy Drink.
With music more like art than sound, they have to be seen to appreciate the talent flowing through this unique color palette of musicians.
