The quartet Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert made up the English rock band New Order in 1980 with an alternative rock and electronica sound.

The group enjoyed critical acclaim throughout the 80s and were seen to play a part in bridging the gap between disco from the 70s and the house/dance music wave of the late 80s. Sumner, Hook and Morris decided to form New Order after the suicide of their front man Ian Curtis and recruited a fourth member, Gilbert, to try to continue as an independent group, different from the former Joy Division. However, their first single "Ceremony" from their debut album was a hit, but was written as Joy Division and was reminiscent of that sound.Their second album was their breakthrough with memorable songs and a more forceful electronica presence. This was influenced by a strong presence in the New York club scene. The instant classic "Age Of Consent" was from this album, and the single "Blue Monday" was later released independently to also become a hit. Their last studio album was in 2005.New Order is reuniting without Peter Hook to perform at select venues across the UK this summer.
