The Irish rock quartet The Cranberries, from Limerick, Ireland, entered the international music scene in the early 90s with an alternative rock sound that broke into the mainstream market with great acclaim.
Dolores O'Riordan's distinctive Gaelic vocals powered the group's blend of pop arrangements with Celtic strains and they knitted guitar, strings and percussion playing together with melodic riffs to great effect.
Their initial singles "Dream" and "Linger" barely registered in the UK, but they soon garnered attention when they opened for other acts in the US. MTV sat up and took notice and "Linger" began to climb the US charts. That ultimately helped them find success with their debut album, both in the US and UK.
Their second album, which spawned the hit "Zombie", was an even bigger success as their sound moved towards an edgier vibe.
After an extended hiatus, The Cranberries are back with their sixth studio album, "Roses", and it is almost as if they had never left. The album seamlessly picks up where the last one left off, albeit with a definite maturity and growth.
