Eleven locos in steam, loco parade, freight displays and more
A special train service will be in operation each day with nine departures from Page’s Park to Stonehenge Works. We plan to have eleven steam locos in action, four of which are over 100 years old.
In addition to passenger trains there will be demonstration freight trains. These are likely to include the LBR’s log carrying wagons, World War 1 rolling stock and a train of LBR sand carrying skip wagons typical of those that were operate by the sand carrying railway. The sand train will be hauled by two of the railway’s original Simplex diesel locos.
Some freight trains will run the whole length of the line. Some will run on towards Mundays Hill on a part of the line not normally used. This extension of the railway is currently part of a bid to restore it to passenger train operational standards.
In addition to the timetabled service, at the end of the afternoon on Saturday 30 September at approximately 17.00 we intend to stage a parade of working steam (11) and diesel (15) locos at Page’s Park Station. This will include a full commentary as each of our locos is paraded in the order they first commenced service on our line. The end of proceedings will be greeted with a 'whistle opera', too.
Alan Keef will also be with us on both days to sign his brand-new book, Motor Rail Catalogues.
