The Ascot CAMRA Beer Festival returns to Ascot Racecourse for the tenth time
New to the raceday this year is the arrival of the Ascot Bier Haus. Inspired by Munich’s legendary Oktoberfest, the Furlong Club towards the east end of the Grandstand will be transformed into Ascot’s very own beer house, serving up German beer, steins, German sausages, ham hock, live music and more.
Among the 250 beers and 30 ciders and ales available to buy, racegoers can find local favourites from Berkshire and Hampshire, as well as producers from further afield including Yorkshire, Lancashire and Shropshire.
The line-up also includes a range of festival special ales brewed exclusively for this year’s event. Special brews include:
• Bond Brews (Wokingham, Berks), Thirsty Trotter – Best Bitter • Elusive (Finchampstead, Berks), ‘As Got Apricot – Speciality Beer • Gyle 59 (Thorncombe, Dorset), Thoroughbred – Golden Ale • Skinner’s (Truro, Cornwall), Alex Agar’s Ale – Speciality Beer • Wild Weather (Silchester, Hants), Why the Long Face?? – Golden Ale
Racegoers can purchase beer vouchers in advance or on the day. Prices start from £2 for half a pint, £5 for a three half-pint voucher and £3.50 for a limited edition beer festival glass.
In addition to the beer festival the Band of the Royal Yeomanry will be performing throughout the afternoon on the Bandstand. Meanwhile a selection of military exhibits will be on display around the racecourse including a Communications Landcover and 7 Rifles weapon system! Racegoers are free to climb aboard, explore and have their photos taken.
The Autumn Racing Weekend heralds two days of dramatic Flat racing, featuring the UK’s joint most valuable seven-furlong handicap the Totepscoop6 Challenge Cup, with a prize fund of £180,000 on Saturday. Also featured is the Listed LondonMetric Noel Murless Stakes, which is run over a mile and six furlongs on Friday.
