The extension of Crossrail to the Thames Valley will be a major boost for both commuters and the UK economy when it begins operation in 2019
Providing an insight into how a huge engineering project such as Crossrail is developed and managed is the theme of the Bracknell Lecture.
Our speaker, Charles Devereaux, a former head of rail operations at Crossrail, will provide a summary of the project and provide an update of its progress and delivery to the network.
He will go on to describe the challenges of opening and integrating a modern railway system and the conflicting expectations of operators, contractors, safety authorities and politicians.
Charles will conclude by highlighting the lessons to be drawn for building a new railway in the twenty-first century.
