Tilehurst Eisteddfod: Tilehurst Eisteddfod: This annual Festival of the Arts has been running in Tilehurst (Reading, England) for over 50 years. Each year it includes Dancing, Arts & Crafts, Music, Original Verse & Short Story Composition and Drama.
In 1952 Mr. Elwyn Jones, a Welshman, Churchman and gifted amateur musician, suggested to a few friends in Tilehurst the idea of a local annual festival to foster interest in the arts. It was decided to sponsor an 'Eisteddfod' along the lines of the Welsh festivals, but with rather more emphasis on relaxed mutual enjoyment and rather less ceremonial formality.
From what must have been a very tentative beginning the Festival has grown in size and status over the years attracting entries from many parts of the United Kingdom but, of course, the majority from Berkshire and the neighbouring counties.
Anyone of any age can participate as a member of a school group, an organisation, or separately as an individual, in any one or more of the sections.
