Join the choir for an afternoon of fabulous music in aid of Carers Trust
The Glasgow Phoenix Choir rose out of the ashes of the world-famous Glasgow Orpheus Choir and this year celebrates 122 years of choral excellence – 72 years as the Glasgow Phoenix Choir and 50 years as the Glasgow Orpheus Choir. The choir is directed by our conductor, Cameron Murdoch. Cameron joined us in 1987 as Accompanist and Depute Conductor and is an Honours graduate in music from the University of Glasgow who also studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He regularly plays harpsichord and piano with various musical ensembles and performs throughout the British Isles. Cameron is also Organist and Choir Master of St. John’s Renfield Church in Glasgow’s West End. Many of the pieces in the current Phoenix repertoire were arranged by Cameron. The Glasgow Phoenix Choir performs over 20 concerts per year and each involves a range of music from choral standards to new music and, in addition, we feature many delightful solo performances by choir members.Carers Trust Scotland is the largest provider of comprehensive carers support services in Scotland.
The charity reaches around 30,000 adult carers and 2,400 young carers from all groups and communities, through a unique network of independent carers centres and young carers services throughout Scotland. It works with these centres to improve support, services and recognition for carers in communities across Scotland. There are an estimated 800,000 unpaid carers in Scotland including 30,000 young carers under the age of 18. The value of unpaid care provided by carers in Scotland is £10,347,400,000 a year. Three out of five of us will become carers at some stage in our lives and 1 in 10 of us is already fulfilling some sort of caring role. As well as providing comprehensive carer support services across Scotland, Carers Trust Scotland is one of the seven National Carer Organisations (NCOs) in the country. Their combined vision is that Scotland’s unpaid carers will feel valued, included, and supported as equal partners in the provision of care. The NCOs seek to represent the views and experiences of carers by responding to proposed policies, laws, strategies, and regulations and to further carers’ rights in Scotland.
