Social history talk on Mapledurham Mill, the last commercially operated mill on the River Thames, with tea and cake.
A mill has existed on the site for over a thousand years and is referred to in Domesday. The mill is part of the two and a half thousand acre Mapledurham estate which has been in the same family since 1492. Corry will describe the early history of the mill until the 1960's when it became almost derelict and its workings and his role as miller. He will describe the key influence weather and river levels can have on operations, including complete stoppage during flooding. A selection of produce from the mill will be available for people to buy. This talk is the fourth in a series of five talks loosely themed in quarter 1 of 2018 at The Centre. Tickets can be brought for each talk individually or for all five talks in a multi-event ticket.WebsiteVisit website
