Social history talk with tea and cake - find out the rich history of street organs and hear a demonstration.
Often, the barrel street organ was not just a solo performer, but used by a group of musicians as part of a story-telling street act, together with brightly coloured posters and sing-along sessions. We are delighted to begin our new afternoon talk programme in the centre with a master of the art of organ grinding, John Hunt, who will not only talk about their history but also demonstrate several of his own barrel organs. This is the first in a series of five talks around the theme of 'All the Fun of the Fair' organised by Berkshire Family History Society in quarter one of 2018. You may purchase tickets for any of the five talks individually or buy a multi-event ticket for all five for a reduced price.Ticket includes tea or coffee and cake. Book all five afternoon talks in the quarter for £20 (members £16). Full details of all these events at www.berksfhs.org.uk.
