Mahler Symphony 2: Saturday 13 March, 7:30pm

Colston Hall, Bristol

Mahler Symphony 2 Resurrection

Bristol Concert Orchestra

Colstons Choirs

Joke de Vin - mezzo-soprano

Colette Lam - soprano

Stefan Hofkes - conductor

A performance of Gustav Mahlers epic and rousing Resurrection symphony is always an experience not to be missed. The first time I heard Mahlers Second Symphony I was seized....with an excitement which expressed itself even physically, in the violent throbbing of my heart. And I was overwhelmed, completely overwhelmed, was the impression it left on Arnold Schoenberg.

Mahler spent six years perfecting this symphony and with it he changed the musical landscape forever. Combining huge orchestral forces with a large choir and vocal soloists, the work takes the listener from early solemnity to an absolute high on a scale not seen before. The apocolyptic conclusion of the symphony - depicting both the terror and glory of a last judgement and resurrection - is surely one of the most moving, exhilarating and uplifting passages of music ever written. To experience a live performance is truly the only way to fully appreciate the power and intensity of this stunning work - be sure not to miss it!

Time stood still was the presss reaction to Dutch mezzo Joke de Vins singing of the central Urlicht movement. Together with soprano Colette Lam she will join some of Bristols foremost musical forces for this concert conducted by Stefan Hofkes.

Tickets, priced £10, £12 & £14 (concessions £7, £9 & £11), are available NOW from 0117 922 3686 or www.colstonhall.org/whatson/Event1235
