I fun filled day - packed with entertainment, games, crafts and activities themed around St George and the Dragon
This event always takes place on the closest Sunday to St George’s Day and this year we have the pleasure of holding the event on the actual day.Come along for a great day-out, steeped in traditional English history and culture, dowsed in good-old family fun and entertainment. The ever popular Morris dancing will take place in the centre of Market Square at 1pm, performed by Aldbury Morris. Children (of all ages) can try their hands at archery, sword fighting and even learn the skills required to be a successful jouster. Watch and learn how arrows were forged on an open fire. You could also take part in a traditional Mummers Play, engage with our dragon and listen to music played on a Hurdy Gurdy. The Dragon and children from a local primary school will once again fight with our larger than life St George. With games, arts, crafts and a colouring competition, alongside pottery painting and crafts from the experts from the Queens Park Arts Centre, there really will be lots of fun and entertainment for you and all of your family.
The annual scout parade leaves Market Square at 2:45pm, led by The Amersham Marching Band, St George and the school dragon with over 200 Scouts, marching to St Mary’s Church, for the annual affirmation service. Returning at approx. 4:15pm for the Scouts to be formally dismissed by the District Commissioner.
