Stowe House: Stowe is a 100ha (250-acre) work of art, both beautiful and full of meaning. With its ornamental lakes, glorious open spaces and wooded valleys, adorned by over 40 temples and monuments, it is one of the supreme creations of the Georgian era and has inspired writers, artists and visitors for more than three centuries. Today Stowe can be enjoyed by all for its peace and tranquillity, as an unspoilt setting for a family picnic or for invigorating walks in the surrounding 304ha (750 acres) of parkland.

What's new in 2005

Newly restored monuments: Corinthian Arch, new column and statue of George II, not seen since the early 1800s. Continuing restoration: Stowe House roof.
