Nurses, researchers, students and more will perform in this open mic event, compered by science comedian, nerd and troublemaker Steve Cross.
Nursing affects everybody in society. Everyone has an opinion or observation from personal experience or media: from pay and conditions to student funding; patient safety to health and wellbeing; technology to new models of care. Nursing Showoff is an evening event in Cambridge intended to stimulate and facilitate this conversation. Nurses, social researchers, nursing practitioners and students will perform in front of a public audience, giving an opportunity to share stories and engage in an interactive way. Through the medium of storytelling, stand-up, presentations and interactive games in a public venue researchers will explore what nursing means for its providers and recipients and the value of health care and social science research.
The event is an adaptation of the established Science Showoff concept. It is organized by the Royal College of Nursing, which represents nurses and supports work with the public and patients to pursue safety and effectiveness in practice, and funded by the ESRC as part of the 2016 Festival of Social Science.
