The ancient county of Cardiganshire? was created in 1282 and was a kingdom in mid-wales for hundreds of years. In 1996 it was reconstituted as the county of Cardiganshire but reverted to Ceredigion the next day, a name which it goes by to this day. The ancient county of Cardiganshire is pretty much exactly the same as the current county of Ceredigion.
