Explore sculpture using powder-based mediums such as charcoal & flock in our Temporary Sculpture workshop
The talk will touch on other artists who have produced work within the realms of Land Art, Painting and Sculpture and the participants will learn about the materials and processes that play an integral role in Hannah’s art making.Hannah utilises a variety of powder based materials such as plaster powder, activated charcoal and flock. She explores their limitations through a series of simple processes and actions including, heaping, compacting, scattering and layering. Sometimes the sculptures are formed by using only fine casting plaster in its pure form, sometimes the sculptures have a supporting feature such as a wooden base that the powder is placed on top of. This making process in turn, informs the outcome of the work and often results in a sculpture that has an illusion of solidity, but is in fact, a fragile pile of powder.
Participants enrolled on the workshop will be invited to play with these materials through different activities. The group will consider the balance of shape, form, surface texture and colour. They will record their findings through photography and will take home a number of artworks. The workshop is taking place 10 - 4.30pm, we advise participants to arrive ten minutes before the start time as the session will begin promptly.
